I am a long time resident of Mill Bay and always wanted to learn more about the area’s history.
It all began when as a trespasser, I crept through the locked gates at the old Bamberton Cement Co site and walked down the long abandoned main street of the former Bamberton village. Few remnants remained but if you listened closely you could still hear voices from those bygone years. What stories were they trying to tell? That’s when my research and recording of local history began.
Since then I have formed the Bamberton and Mill Bay/Malahat Historical Societies, a professional historical theatre company, written a book and helped produce 3 documentaries all with the help of people passionate to preserve the history of the area.
Recently the BHS and the MBMHS partnered with the Cobble Hill Historical Society to create the Heritage Museum located in a historic church in Mill Bay.
Working with other wonderful volunteers to develop displays and tell stories of this area’s past has not only brought history to life but has created many friendships.
Please consider joining us as we explore ways to bring this history to life a fun way to meet new people and learn more about your community.
My name is Tom Moore and we lived in Mill From 1952 until 1959. We lived next to Bayview Builders supply in a house we rented from Slim Warner. Across the road was a ball field where the mall is now. It looks like the museum is the old church across from Siewertsen”s garage. I will try to get down this summer and peruse your displays.
